THE Coalition, desperate to find a high-profile candidate to take on Maxine McKew in the Sydney seat of Bennelong, has approached former state Liberal leader Kerry Chikarovski.
The once blue-ribbon seat had been held by John Howard since 1974 until it was lost to Labor at the 2007 federal election.
While the Liberals need to win back Bennelong - which Ms McKew holds with a margin of just 1.4 per cent - the party has so far failed to secure a suitable candidate.
Community groups in the electorate last year accused Ms McKew of turning her back on the electorate since the federal election, a claim she denied.
